Layout the Field

To layout the field we use some basic trigonometry. The field is split up into six triangles which you can see in the image (follow white broken lines.)

You will need 12 (orange) tent pegs, three mid-line measuring pegs (we use the ones that came with the measuring tapes), three 100ft measuring tapes, 2x200ft yellow/orange rope. If the ground is hard, you will need a small rubber mallet to drive the pegs into the ground.

Using the diagram to the left, we are going to start with the center line C-F. Make sure you are at least 75 feet from where you want your start line to be. Put a light green peg in the ground at point C. From there measure 60 feet and place a second light green peg at point F. Then, using the measuring tape, place a third light green peg at point G.

Attach each of the three measuring tapes to points C, G and F.

Take two of the tape measures, the ones attached to point F and G, and walk towards the zero yard line at point E. Where the two tape measures cross at exactly 76' 6", place a orange peg to mark point E.

With the tape measures in place walk along the line F-E. With F being your starting point, place an orange peg 15' 3 1/2" from point F and another orange peg at 45' 3 1/2" from point F.

Now complete that side of the field by walking with the two tape measures attached to points F and G towards where point A will be. Again, when the two tape measures cross at 76' 6", place an orange peg for point A.

Again, measure from point F towards point A and place two orange pegs at 15' 3 1/2" and 45' 3 1/2" from point F. This completes one side of the field.

Drop the tape measure attached to point F. Take the two tape measure attached to points G and C, and walk towards point B. Repeat the instructions above to place two orange pegs along the B-C line, at 15' 3 1/2 " and 45' 3 1/2" from point C.

Finally, take the same two tape measures and walk towards point D. Where the tape measures cross at 76' 6", place an orange peg - this is point D.

One final time, place two orange pegs  at 15' 3 1/2" and 45' 3 1/2" from point C. This completes one side of the field.

Finally, remove the peg in the center of the field at point G. All pegs are now in place and we can move on to laying down the ropes.

Attach one rope to point A, and walk towards point F. At each peg along the way, pull the rope taut and wrap the rope around each of the two pegs twice, and also at point F. Continue to walk towards point E, repeating the process of wrapping the rope at each peg. Finally, walk towards point D and wrap the rope around that peg. We are half way there.

Again starting at point A, attach the second rope and walk towards points B, C  and D, wrapping the rope around each of the pegs.

The last step, is to place the orange cones on top of each peg. If the cones are numbered, start with zero at point E and walk towards point F, place cones on top of the two pegs in between with numbers 1 and 2. Do not place a numbered cone at point F, then proceed towards point A, place cones numbered 3 and 5 and a blank cone at point A.

Repeat this process on the other side starting at point D.  Finally place two different colored cones on top of points C and F (half way line)

The field layout is now complete.
